Fresh Wax: 7-3-09 (Seattle Weekly)

Beastie Boys Hello Nasty.jpg

With the upcoming July 4th holiday, it looks like the vinyl releases slowed down just a touch this week. But there’s still a load of quality music coming out on wax this week … as well as a new Keith Urban record. Fans of contemporary jazz will want to note new reissues from Pat Metheny and Joshua Redman; not only is Warner Bros. putting them out on thick 180g vinyl, but also including CDs in the package. This isn’t a new thing by any stretch – Blue Note has been sticking CDs in their vinyl reissues for a while – but seeing a major label treat their more pop-oriented jazz titles like this is a nice trend.
