Local hardcore metallians Hand to Hand kick off their new EP with a song called “Dufresne, Party of Six,” but the riff-heavy cut is not an homage, musically at least, to Mitch Hedberg’s comedic stylings. H2H have grown considerably in their four-year existence, with many of the more simplistic and genre-aping characteristics of their early performances giving way to a more stylized approach to heavy music. The band’s constant roster changes have had something to do with their growth; as newer, more accomplished members have come along, H2H’s sound has matured. However, there’s always been a defiant desire in the Orlando group to split the difference between scene acceptance and musical individuality. These guys still sound like a contemporary metal band – for better and for worse – but there’s a spark of personality and even humor to their approach that’s earned them a well-deserved audience outside the 407.
